The Ledlenser EXH8 is an independently certified ATEX and IECEx intrinsically safe head torch rated for Zone 0 gas environments and Zone 20 dust environments - the highest hazard classification, covering areas where explosive atmospheres are present continuously or for long periods. Certified to II 1G Ex ia op is IIC T4 Ga and II 1D Ex ia op is IIIC T135°C Da, it is one of the most comprehensively certified hands-free lighting solutions available for hazardous area professionals.

Delivering 180 lumens with the patented Advanced Focus System for spot-to-flood beam adjustment, a magnetic glove-compatible switch, rear red positional light and up to 40 hours of runtime on 3 × AA alkaline batteries - the EXH8 provides the illumination, control and reliability that Zone 0/20 environments demand, in a comfortable, adjustable headband format.

FAQs

What does Zone 0/20 certification mean and why does it matter?

Zone 0 is the highest gas hazard classification — areas where explosive gas atmospheres are present continuously or for long periods. Zone 20 is the equivalent for combustible dust. Standard waterproof or industrial head torches are not certified for these environments regardless of their IP rating. The EXH8 is independently certified to ATEX (Baseefa17ATEX0157) and IECEx (IECEx BAS18.0008) standards, confirming its electrical and thermal energy levels cannot ignite a surrounding Zone 0/20 atmosphere even under fault conditions. This certification is a legal requirement for equipment used in these environments — always verify zone classification with your site safety officer before purchase.

What is the difference between Zone 0 and Zone 1/2 for ATEX head torches?

Zone 0 covers environments where explosive gas atmospheres are present continuously or for long periods — the highest risk classification requiring the most stringent equipment certification. Zone 1 covers atmospheres likely during normal operation; Zone 2 covers those that may occur only under abnormal conditions. The EXH8's Zone 0/20 certification makes it suitable for use across all three gas zones and all three dust zones — a single head torch that covers the full hazardous area spectrum. Lower-rated Zone 1 or Zone 2 torches are not certified for use in Zone 0 environments.

Why does the EXH8 use AA alkaline batteries rather than a rechargeable cell?

In many Zone 0/20 environments, recharging equipment within the hazardous area is not permitted and may not be practical. AA alkaline batteries provide long shelf life, worldwide availability and can be replaced quickly without tools or an allen key — a practical and operationally important advantage when battery changes need to happen efficiently during a shift. The EXH8 is supplied with 3 × AA alkaline batteries and a battery cartridge for straightforward field replacement.

How does the magnetic switch work and why is it important for hazardous area use?

The EXH8's magnetic switch is operated by passing a magnet over the switch location rather than pressing a physical button — allowing brightness mode changes with work gloves, chemical-resistant gloves and full PPE in place, without removing hand protection. The rotary switch design also contributes to the sealed, intrinsically safe construction of the torch — reducing the risk of ignition-capable sparks associated with mechanical contact switches in explosive atmospheres.

Is the EXH8 suitable for wearing on a safety helmet?

Yes. The EXH8 headband features a rubberised back that prevents slipping on helmet surfaces, and the side overhead strap provides additional stability on both heads and helmets during sustained active use. A Silicone Headband Type A (item 501595) is available separately for alternative helmet mounting configurations. The 55° stepless head tilt allows precise beam direction regardless of mounting position.
