FAQs

What is the difference between the EX4, EX7 and EX7R in the Ledlenser ATEX range?

All three are Zone 0-rated handheld ATEX torches sharing the same ATEX and IECEx certification. The EX4 is the compact pocket carry option — 65g, 50 lumens, single mode, AAA battery powered with no focus function. The EX7 steps up to 200 lumens with the Advanced Focus System for spot-to-flood beam adjustment, a magnetic glove-compatible switch and a belt clip for optional hands-free use, powered by 3 × AA alkaline batteries. The EX7R is the rechargeable version rated for Zone 1/21 (rather than Zone 0/20) — 220 lumens with the Advanced Focus System, magnetic switch and charging dock. Choose the EX4 for compact pocket carry; the EX7 for higher output with beam flexibility in Zone 0/20; the EX7R for rechargeable convenience in Zone 1/21.

Is the EX4 suitable for use as an inspection torch in a confined space?

Yes. At 140mm and 65g the EX4 is specifically designed as a compact inspection torch — small enough to be kept on the person at all times and deployed instantly in confined spaces, tight pipework and restricted access areas within Zone 0/20 classified environments. Helmet Mount Type A or B accessories allow it to be mounted for hands-free use when required.

Why does the EX4 have only one light mode?

The EX4 is designed for simplicity and reliability in hazardous area pocket carry use — a single 50-lumen power mode operated by an end-cap switch provides straightforward, unambiguous operation with gloves and full PPE. Multiple modes would add complexity to a torch whose primary role is immediate, reliable illumination in an emergency or inspection context. For multi-mode ATEX torches in the same zone classification, the EX7 provides low power and power modes with Advanced Focus beam control.

Can the EX4 be mounted on a safety helmet?

Yes. Two helmet mount accessories are available for the EX4 — Helmet Mount Type A (500954) and Helmet Mount Type B (500955) — for different helmet profiles, alongside the Intelligent Clip Type F (500956) for equipment and clothing attachment. These are sold separately; contact our team at support@ledlenser.co.uk for guidance on the correct mount for your specific helmet.
