The Ledlenser EX7R is the first intrinsically safe rechargeable ATEX handheld torch with the Advanced Focus System for Zone 1/21 gas and dust environments. Certified to II 2G Ex ib op is IIC T4 Gb and II 2D Ex ib op is IIIC T135°C Db, it delivers 220 lumens with a 140-metre beam and eliminates the need to remove and reinsert batteries - simply dock the torch in the supplied charging cradle to recharge.

The magnetic glove-compatible switch, Advanced Focus System beam adjustment, charging indicator light and supplied belt clip make the EX7R the most operationally capable rechargeable ATEX handheld torch available for Zone 1/21 classified environments.

Most of our lights have a standard warranty period of 2 years which can be extended by a further 5 years with online registration. What is the difference between the EX7 and the EX7R?

Both are ATEX and IECEx certified handheld torches with the Advanced Focus System and magnetic switch, sharing identical physical dimensions. The critical differences are zone rating and power source. The EX7 is certified for Zone 0/20 — the highest gas and dust hazard classification — and runs on 3 × AA alkaline batteries. The EX7R is certified for Zone 1/21 and is rechargeable via a charging dock with a 3,250mAh lithium-ion battery delivering 220 lumens and up to 45 hours at low power. If your site classification is Zone 0, the EX7 is required; for Zone 1/21, the EX7R offers the practical advantage of rechargeable operation.

Can the EX7R be charged within a hazardous area?

This depends on your site classification and the location of the charging station. The EX7R's charging dock and power supply are not themselves ATEX-certified for use in classified hazardous areas — charging should take place in a designated safe area outside the classified zone. A 5 Station Charging Panel (item 0412) is available separately for multi-unit charging in workshop or safe area environments. Consult your site safety officer for guidance on charging protocols specific to your facility.

How does the charging dock work on the EX7R?

The EX7R charges by docking the torch directly into the supplied charging cradle — no battery removal or cable connection required. A charging indicator light on the torch housing confirms charge status and illuminates when fully charged. Full charge time is 660 minutes (11 hours). The dock is designed for workshop or vehicle installation and connects via the included power supply.

What is the 5 Station Charging Panel and when would I need it?

The 5 Station Charging Panel (item 0412) is an accessory that allows up to five EX7R torches to be charged simultaneously from a single installation — practical for teams operating multiple torches across shifts and requiring coordinated charging between operational periods. It is sold separately and is the recommended solution for organisations equipping multiple personnel with EX7R torches.
